Autumn Color Inspiration

With the beginning of autumn comes the introduction of a new color palette that reflects the changing leaf colors, shorter days, and cooler temperatures. Ruby reds and vibrant oranges replace the hot pinks and icy blues of summer, and lately we’ve seen these new colors trends reflected on the catwalks, in the lookbooks, and all over the fashion blogs. Today, we’re paying homage to the new season with products inspired by the colors of some of our favorite autumn things.

Changing Leaf Colors

Cerise Shift Dress

Nothing screams autumn quite like the sight of jewel-toned leaves. This Jack by BB Dakota Bandz Woolen Jacket from Urban Outfitters captures the vibrancy of the changing leaf colors, as does this exquisite Cerise Shift Dress from Anthropologie.

Pumpkin Pie

Pudil Flats

We know, we know. It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but what would autumn be without pumpkin pie? This Double V-Neck Sweater from Express comes in an orange reminiscent of our favorite autumn dessert, and the unexpected detailing on the back gives it an understated elegance. Right now, the sweater is buy one, get one 50% off, so hop to it!

We’re also enamored with these orange Pudil Flats by Aldo. Pair them with a black pencil skirt for Halloween flair that’s safe for the office.

There are few things more inviting on a chilly autumn night than a warm, crackling bonfire. The color grey usually gets a bad name for being boring or bland, but this grey nail polish (NARS Nail Polish in Galathee from Sephora) proves to be both sophisticated enough for a fancy night out, and casual enough for a quick coffee with friends. If you’re looking for something a little more flashy, Rain Drops Nail Varnish by Illamasqua (also available at Sephora) comes in a shimmery light grey.

5 Ways to Get Glowing this Winter

Keeping in line with our resolution to look more polished this year, we’re beating the winter blahs this season with goodies from Shopilly’s favorite new bath & beauty line, Not Soap, Radio. With clever names like Liquid Freud body wash and Island Hopping perfume, we can’t get enough of their yummy, (almost) all-natural products. So much so, we’ve partnered up so you can score 20 percent off your next purchase! (Click here for the 411)

We test-drove a few products and picked our top 5 favorite to help you stay shiny and brand new this season. Here’s how…

Light a few candles, grab a stack of magazines and decompress after a long day with a warm, sudsy bubble bath spiked with Damsel in De-Stress ($12). A blend of calming, sulfate-free ingredients kicks toxic, wrinkle-inducing stress to the curb while leaving skin fresh and squeaky clean.

You’ll always feel red-carpet ready (even if you’re just going to the gas station) wearing I’m Not Here, I’m Really Walking the Red Carpet solid perfume ($15), a sweet blend of black & red current, Bulgarian rose and fresh jasmine in a stow-and-go fragrance jar. (And guess what? It also doubles as a hair pomade to help keep frizz and flyaways at bay, to boot!)

Beautify between client meetings and cocktail hour by keeping Not Soap Radio’s best-selling Bride’s Face Palette ($8) at your desk or glove compartment for quick & easy touch-ups. It features a compact mirror, 8 single-use glosses & shadows and a warm, universally-flattering bronzer to enhance your natural glow on-the-go.

Get soft, kissable lips with Cherry Cordial lip balm ($10), a moisturizing milk chocolate & black cherry lip duo made with real cocoa and fruit extracts (yum). We love how it made our pout look shiny-yet-totally-natural-looking all afternoon.

Don’t let the blistery cold air suck all the moisture from your skin. After your morning shower, slather a layer of The Stuff That Cupid Dips His Arrow In body soufflé ($18)—a silky, super-hydrating lotion scented with sweet blackberries and fresh vanilla cream, sure to keep skin soft and supple all day.

All That Glitters

It’s almost time to ring in the new year! Whether you’re celebrating the countdown at a glamorous soiree or hosting an intimate party at home, put the Midas touch on your New Year’s Eve look with splashes of gold sparkle, inspired by the Spring 2013 runways. Add just a touch (such as a row of rings, a la Balenciaga) or go all out (hello Oscar de la Renta!) with our roundup of the web’s best and brightest 24-karat pieces.

Stand out and shine all evening in a shimmering mini. We found a trio on sale at The Outnet (Net-A-Porter’s digital outlet–a goldmine for designer steals!) such as this sweet scalloped strapless by Rachel Gilbert (marked down to $478 from $1,365), seductive bodycon by Herve Leger ($770) and sizzling one-shoulder dress by Opulence England ($160).

Or, ease into the trend one piece at a time. Tuck this sequined tank ($20 from Target) into a flouncy skirt or pair Diane Von Furstenberg’s metallic twill shorts (on sale for $150 at Net-A-Porter) with a billowy blouse and black microfiber tights for a look that’s as good as, well, gold. Watch how Rag & Bone’s luxurious bronze blazer ($895 at Net-A-Porter) instantly dresses up your plain LBD.

Dance till dawn in Christian Louboutin’s jaw-dropping peep-toes (a whopping $3,995, available exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman in honor of their 111th anniversary) adorned with millions of crystals & studs. Tuck lip gloss, cash and compact essentials in Diane Von Furstenberg’s lustrous clutch ($295 at Nordstrom), which has a crossbody strap to keep hands free for a glass of bubbly. Or, jazz up a strapless neckline with Kate Spade New York’s heavy-duty gold & pearl necklace ($155, take an extra 25% off with code 25SALE)—the perfect accessory for making a gleaming statement.

And finally, switch up your beauty routine with a dose of shimmer. Dust eyes with Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Cream Shadow in Goldstone ($24 at Sephora, take an extra 20% off sale items with code EXTRA20) for solid gold sparkle that won’t smudge. Or, turn up the heat with Gucci Guilty ($61 at Macy’s, enjoy an additional 15% off with code JOY) —a sleek, sexy fragrance infused with violet and amber. Lastly, look polished to perfection with Essie’s Golden Nuggets nail lacquer ($8 at at your fingertips.

As the end-of-year invites pour in, there’s no better time to shake up your beauty routine and try something new to hit the holiday party circuit. Here are five festive, easy trends, from a picture-perfect ballerina bun, to bright lips inspired by a few of our favorite celebrities, that we can’t wait to try. The best part? Everything’s under 20 bucks!

RWitherspoon_GL_7nov11_pa_ donut

Channel your inner prima ballerina (while showing off a pair of sparkly earrings) with an ultra-chic topknot, a la Reese Witherspoon. Get the look at home with the Conair Bun Maker ($5 at Ulta, snag $10 off when you spend $60 with code 80531), a spongy, donut-shaped ring that you simply roll through your ponytail. Secure it in place with bobby pins and elastic and—voila—instant updo! We recently wore ours to a wedding and our hair remained polished-to-perfection way after the bouquet toss.

0828-jessica-abla-gold-nail-polish_bd NMC11KB_mx

Put the Midas touch on your manicure with rich gold lacquer. We love how it adds an extra dose of richness to Jessica Alba’s shimmering outfit. To DIY, start with clean buffed nails. Prime your canvas with a thin layer of base coat, (we’ve been using Seche Vite’s for years because it fills ridges for smoother application), then top with two coats of luxe gold polish, such as Deborah Lippmann’s in Swagga Like Us ($18 at Neiman Marcus, enjoy free shipping on all orders). Wait a solid 15 minutes to dry, and then finish with a fast-drying top coat.

The quickest way to brighten up for the holidays? A bold red pout. Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in Red ($19 at Sephora, enter their Beauty Insider program for sweet freebies) is enriched with nourishing properties and mother-of-pearl pigments for deep color and extra shine. The trick to pulling it off is to keep the rest of your makeup clean and minimal—think peachy cheeks and lightly lined eyes, like Olivia Palermo.

KATE MARA at Deadfall Premiere V310263

If you’re in the mood for something sultry, try smoky eyes like Kate Mara. Victoria’s Secret makes it foolproof, thanks to their user-friendly Smoky Eyes kit ($15, snag free shipping with code SHIPFREE) which comes with 6 different shadows to use on your crease, lids and brow bone, along with a step-by-step guide to achieve the perfectly smoldering look.

Consider it jewelry for your hair: Headbands are making a major comeback (as evidenced by this photo of Michelle Williams), especially those embellished with gems and bits of sparkle, such as this darling piece by Forever 21 ($7, while there, snag boots for 30% off!). It’s a subtle way to dress up your look while lending extra polish, keeping bangs and flyways at bay.

Decked out office halls, ubiquitous red Starbucks cups and this week’s lighting of the Rock Center tree means one thing: the holidays are in full swing! We know that the holiday rush can be overwhelming. If you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet, ease into the spirit of things with our favorite bite-sized stocking stuffers. All are under 50 bucks and are as delightful to give as they are to receive!

Halloween for Procrastinators

Halloween is right around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve waited until the very last moment to scrounge up a costume. Luckily, all it takes is a little creativity and a good deal or two to whip up an affordable, Halloween party-worthy costume. Whatever your reason for procrastinating on your costume hunt, Shopilly has a solution for you:

  1. I don’t want to pay a lot for a flimsy costume I’ll only wear once. This is where the beauty of DIY comes in. You can pull together a great costume at minimal cost by assembling the pieces yourself, which also allows you to strategically purchase pieces that you’ll continue wearing and using after the festivities are over. You may even already have pieces in your closet that you can integrate into your costume. Let’s take Little Red Riding Hood as an example. Start by layering a Fleece Cape by American Apparel over Forever 21‘s Flared Chambray Shirtdress.
Complete your look with a wicker basket (psst — Linens ‘n Things is offering 20% off selected items until 10/23 with the coupon code Halloween20). Your costume will be instantly recognizable, and after Halloween is over, you’ll have a trendy cape to keep you warm throughout the winter, a versatile shirtdress to add to your closet, and a wicker basket to use for decoration or organizational purposes.
  2. I can’t come up with an original/funny/witty costume idea. Stop being so hard on yourself! Halloween is all about having fun, so don’t stress out about having the wittiest costume at the party. is a reliable source for a variety of costumes, available in a wide range of prices to fit your budget. If you’re lusting after the “most original costume” award, search for “Halloween costumes” on and sort the search results by “New and Bestselling” to get an idea of the most popular costumes. Then avoid purchasing these costumes — or just laugh about it when you bump into another Flo the Progressive Insurance Girl at the party.
  3. I hate dressing up. Who says you have to go all-out on Halloween? Even a little creative face paint can be transformational. A quick web search for “Halloween makeup tutorials” returns a bevy of tutorial videos — one of my favorites is this zombie makeup tutorial. Once you’ve picked out a look, head over to Sephora to purchase the makeup you need to achieve the look. And just in time for Halloween, Sephora is giving you the opportunity to win a discount with its Spin To Win Friends & Family Sale!

Happy Halloween from Shopilly!

Beauty Fab 5: Blood Red Lips

In the spirit of Halloween (and just in time for Sephora’s Spin To Win Friends & Family Sale, happening right now) dip into the dark side with deep rouge pouts, which were rampant on the Fall ‘12 runways. It’s a sultry, sophisticated look that’s spot on for the season’s moody ensembles. To get it just right, find a shade that complements your skin tone, and try keep the rest of your makeup minimal—think clean skin and lightly lined eyes with just a wand’s worth of mascara.

Here, we raided Sephora to cull out the best in blood red lipsticks so you can get that just-bitten look. (Click here to give their game a whirl and you may score them at a sweet discount, to boot!)

Gucci                                    Saint Laurent                        Nina Ricci

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Blood Red, $32

Kiss pale lips goodbye in this rich shade, blended with just enough brightness to flatter most complexions. Plus, a cocktail of moisturizing hydrospheres ensure lips stay soft and supple.

Vamp it up in something smoldering with chocolate undertones, such as a rich, creamy burgundy.

Ellis Faas Glazed Lips in Blood Red, $35

Shine all evening with this dangerously intense lip glaze. We love how our smooch stayed glossy (even through two cocktails) without feeling sticky or having to reapply.
