Autumn Color Inspiration

With the beginning of autumn comes the introduction of a new color palette that reflects the changing leaf colors, shorter days, and cooler temperatures. Ruby reds and vibrant oranges replace the hot pinks and icy blues of summer, and lately we’ve seen these new colors trends reflected on the catwalks, in the lookbooks, and all over the fashion blogs. Today, we’re paying homage to the new season with products inspired by the colors of some of our favorite autumn things.

Changing Leaf Colors

Cerise Shift Dress

Nothing screams autumn quite like the sight of jewel-toned leaves. This Jack by BB Dakota Bandz Woolen Jacket from Urban Outfitters captures the vibrancy of the changing leaf colors, as does this exquisite Cerise Shift Dress from Anthropologie.

Pumpkin Pie

Pudil Flats

We know, we know. It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but what would autumn be without pumpkin pie? This Double V-Neck Sweater from Express comes in an orange reminiscent of our favorite autumn dessert, and the unexpected detailing on the back gives it an understated elegance. Right now, the sweater is buy one, get one 50% off, so hop to it!

We’re also enamored with these orange Pudil Flats by Aldo. Pair them with a black pencil skirt for Halloween flair that’s safe for the office.

There are few things more inviting on a chilly autumn night than a warm, crackling bonfire. The color grey usually gets a bad name for being boring or bland, but this grey nail polish (NARS Nail Polish in Galathee from Sephora) proves to be both sophisticated enough for a fancy night out, and casual enough for a quick coffee with friends. If you’re looking for something a little more flashy, Rain Drops Nail Varnish by Illamasqua (also available at Sephora) comes in a shimmery light grey.

Fall Preview: Ankle Boots, Sleek Trenches, and Cozy Knits

Labor Day marked the unofficial end of summer, and though we’re sad to see it go, we’re already looking forward to fall. In fact, we’re looking forward to it so much that we’ve rounded up a fashion preview to get you excited for the wardrobe transition that accompanies cooler temperatures and shorter days. Take a look at some of the trends we’re noticing from our favorite brands:

Ankle Boots

Fiera Ankle Booties

The last few years have been all about knee-high boots in riding and western styles, but we’re loving the lower-cut ankle boots that have been making the rounds in fashion blogs. These boots are both cute and versatile — wear them with summer dresses and bare legs now, and slip them over leggings or skinny jeans come fall. Some of our favorite styles are the Fiera double zipper booties by Aldo and the combat-inspired Towner booties by Nine West. We also like the eclectic boot styles Cupcakes and Cashmere blogger Emily Schuman highlighted in this recent post.

Sleek Trenches

ASOS Skater Trench

A classic trench coat is a must-have piece — throw one over any outfit for instant polish. Asos has a great selection of trenches at affordable prices. We like the Asos Classic Trench and Asos Skater Trench, both of which come in camel or black.

Cozy Knits

Knitted Tie Back Cable Top

If you’ve been affected by the recent heat waves in the midwest, cozy knit sweaters are probably not at the top of your “to-buy” list right now. That being said, this Forever 21 Floral Open-Knit Top is a lighter option for early mornings or crisp evenings. For those of you living in cooler regions, we love the adorable detailing on Topshop’s Knitted Tie Back Cable Top.

Fall’s Most Wanted

Soft spun cashmere. Sumptuous leather boots. And layers, layers, layers! Thanks to just-right temps and stores brimming with new arrivals, there’s no time like fall that inspires us to put our most stylish foot forward. Want to give your look a quick update? Reach for these lovely layers to carry you through the season (and beyond).

1. The ultimate fall accessory? A long, luxurious scarf to layer over jackets, dresses and knits. We love this one by Acne ($140,, crafted of super-soft wool in a deep camel hue that lends a touch of richness to any outfit.

2. We’ll be wearing this dazzling necklace by Zara ($30, with everything from jeans and a tee to our favorite LBD into holiday soiree season. (Because sometimes a girl needs sparkle.)

3. Swap your dark leather handbag for something more vibrant, such as Cambridge Satchel Company’s leather crossbody ($158, The clean, simple shape makes it ideal for both work and weekends, while the cherry red hue adds a cheerful pop of color.

4. Don’t put away your summer clothes just yet—rework pieces, such as a billowy maxi skirt, into your fall wardrobe. Pair this one by J.Crew ($475, with a shrunken leather jacket, wooly scarf and boots and—voila!—an unexpected cool combo.

5. Brown leather riding boots (such as Topshop’s, $180, are a quintessential fall staple for good reason—they’re comfortable, pair as easily with tucked skinny jeans as they do a flirty mini, and no matter how many years pass, they’ll never go out of style.

6. Elevate your basics with animal prints. This floaty skirt by Wren ($250, is sure to add an instant dose of glamour to a black turtleneck and tights or boots and a shrunken blazer.

7. Finally, if there’s one piece you splurge on this season, make it a classic, go-everywhere jacket, such as this cashmere blazer by Burberry Prorsum ($2,460, Swoon). Treat it like a top and wear it belted with a pencil skirt or black stovepipes now, then layered underneath a warm vest or coat once it gets colder. The timeless shape, luxurious fabric and ultra-flattering fit ensures you’ll keep it in your closet forever.
