Winter Apparel to Keep You Warm

Brrr, it’s been cold out there! This New Year brought the usual celebrations, resolutions and an unexpected polar vortex. Luckily, January is a great month to take advantage of close-out sales, so if you’re in need of some cold weather apparel or accessories, you’re in luck. To get you started, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite deals and steals:

Winter Apparel to Keep You Warm

Hats
The belief that 40-45 percent of your body heat is lost from your head has been debunked – in reality, it’s closer to 10 percent – but it’s still important to keep your noggin warm during the winter months. The AEO Metallic Knit Beanie, which is on sale at American Eagle for $11.99, combines fashion and function with its slouchy fit and eye-catching metallic sheen. For a more weather-resistant hat, check out the Power Stretch Beanie at Eddie Bauer. It’s on sale for $19.99 and features wind- and abrasion-resistant Polartec fabric.

Scarves
If you’ve gotten caught in cold or windy weather without a scarf, you know how much you miss one. Don’t let your neck go exposed- invest in a thick scarf like the Chunky Cowl Scarf from Gap , on sale for $31.46. The REI Rib-Knit Cable Infinity Scarf is another good pick at $37.93. It’s extra-long, so you can loop it around your neck multiple times.

Gloves
Before you step out into the cold, put on a pair of gloves to keep your fingers toasty. These luxurious Cashmere Short Gloves are on sale for $54.99, and Ann Taylor is offering an extra 50% off on all sale styles. If you prefer keeping your fingers free, these exquisite Dyani Arm Warmers from Anthropologie will still keep your arms and palms warm. They’re on sale for $59.95.

Coats
A sturdy, warm coat is your best friend in cold weather. Check out Burlington Coat Factory for great deals on name brand coats. For example, the Herringbone Belted Coat, which usually sells for $160, is just $79.99 right now. French Connection has a significant number of coats on sale right now, too. The chic Tulip Coat with Leather Trim offers a pop of color for $299.99, down from $325.

Lastly, if it’s maximum warmth you seek, take a look at the Annapurna Jacket, which features lightweight, compressible PrimaLoft One insulation. It’s on sale for $132.93 at REI.

Stay warm!

Springing into Florals, Skirts, and Brights

Now that we can (almost) say sayonara to the layering, heavy coats, and sober color palette of the winter months, it’s time to scout out our favorite spring fashions to add some color back into our lives. Spring is all about graphic prints and patterns, playful silhouettes, and the ultimate air of whimsy. Capture the vigor, vibrancy, and vitality of spring through your clothing with Shopilly’s favorite spring finds:

Spring Trends We Can’t Wait to Wear

It’s feeling a lot like spring here in the Bay Area, perhaps thanks to Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction that winter will end early this year. Even if you live in a part of the country that’s still bundled up from chilly temperatures, take heart – the first day of spring is only about a month away. With warmer temperatures and longer days on our minds, we’re taking a peek at spring trends for a variety of activities:

The First Picnic of the Season

Sunshine, good food, friends and family – what better way to welcome spring than with a picnic? Here are our favorite dresses of the season, equally perfect for frolicking on Venice Beach or in Central Park:

  1. Colorblock Chiffon Dress, American Eagle Outfitters
  2. Recycled Jersey Stripe Dress, James Perse Los Angeles
  3. Lace-Yolk Dress, Anthropologie

A Jog in the Park

Lululemon Run Inspire Crop

“Dreadmill” haters, rejoice – you can look forward to many months of outdoor activities! Kiss your winter layers goodbye and pull on Lululemon’s Run: Inspire Crop II. These running crops feature moisture-wicking fabrics and mesh panels to help you stay comfortable in warmer weather. Pair them with the Breathe Racerback tank from Gaiam, and if there’s a morning chill in the air, top off your outfit with Puma’s Tech Performance Seamless Jacket.

A Morning at the Farmer’s Market

Gap 1969 chambray tunic

Here in California, we’re spoiled by nearly year-round farmer’s markets, but in other parts of the country, spring ushers in the return of farmer’s markets. For a leisurely morning spent scoping out fresh produce, comfortable footwear is a must, and the Cole Haan ‘Air Monica’ Ballet Flat (available via Nordstrom) fits the bill with its comfy Nike Air technology. Wear the flats with pastel-hued pants like Free People’s Herringbone Skinny Crops and a relaxed chambray tunic from Gap. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Power Lunch

J. Crew Collection Featherweight Cashmere Cardigan

We love the fun patterns and sorbet-inspired colors in J. Crew’s spring cashmere shop. This cashmere cardigan is simple and classic, but its featherweight feel and an impressive variety of colors make it a perfect springtime addition to your closet. Our favorite colors are lemon pulp (shown above) and neon rose – pair the cardigan with your favorite pencil skirt for an instant wear-to-work outfit.
